Marketers have figured out by now that social media presence is essential for growing their brands. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have become "tier 1" social sites, but there are dozens of other emerging social media channels that are available for marketers as well. Most of these sites are free and easy to use, so why not take advantage of the opportunity to share your content on as many channels as possible? Leveraging content on a variety of sites is a simple way to reach more customers and promote your brand.
These four social media outlets focus on using visual content to drive engagement. If you haven't already, set up accounts on Tumblr, Vine, Flickr, and SnapChat to share content in addition to using the tier one social channels mentioned above.
1. Tumblr
This social media site has about 50 million users and over 20 billion unique posts. Tumblr is a blog-like site where brands can post pictures, GIFs, memes, and other content. Disney and Coke are two top brands that effectively use Tumblr. Followers can reblog or like posts, with animated and dynamic content performing the best. The site is engaging and easy to use. Check out the ExactTarget Marketing Cloud's Tumblr page to see more examples of visual posts.
2. Vine
Some brands have found that Vine is a fun and creative way to showcase their products. Six-second videos are posted on the site showcasing products in interesting ways. Stop motion videos or behind-the-scenes exclusives are great options for posts. Oreo has performed well on Vine with #OreoMagic and #OreoSnackHacks posts (magic tricks and quick Oreo recipes). The brand has over 23 thousand followers with many posts receiving close to 500 likes.
3. Flickr
Flickr is a great portal for uploading pictures that you might post on Facebook or Instagram. Consumers love looking at pictures and would rather scroll through a gallery than read a lot of text. Use Flickr to portray your company culture and highlight professional photography from your biggest events. You can also join groups and interact with similar industry brands. Ford Motor Company is good example of effective Flickr posts with high quality and appealing photo posts.
4. SnapChat
Popular among young consumers, SnapChat is a photo and video sharing app where users can send visual content for an allotted period of time before it disappears. In addition, collections of photos and videos can create a "story" to highlight special events. Short captions or doodles can also enhance the snap. Brands are beginning to utilize the app, creating a teaser type of communication with followers. Check out how the NBA has used the app in their marketing efforts to engage fans.
