If you have even a passing interest in movies or celebrity gossip, you've probably heard of the Cannes Film Festival. But chances are you're less familiar with the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity.

What's the difference, you ask? While most of us marketers will never rub elbows with movie stars and celebutantes in the South of France, the annual Cannes Lions Festival recognizes the work of our peers.

Here's your quick guide to this prestigious event, taking place June 15-21, 2014.

What is Cannes Lions all about?
According to the festival website, "Cannes Lions is the only truly global meeting place for professionals working in creative communications, from creatives and marketers to technologists and media specialists. Cannes Lions is where 12,000 people from 94 countries come together to be inspired by seven unmissable days of learning, networking, and celebration."

Is there real content at Cannes Lions?
This year's Cannes Lions features more than 250 speakers, from industry superstars to thought leaders and celebrity icons, each sharing their insights on the communication industry. From seminars and forums to hands-on workshops, this festival offers seven jam-packed days of professional development and learning opportunities.

But it isn't "all work and no play," right?
Definitely not! This is also an opportunity to be inspired by the work of your peers and celebrate their accomplishments. Throughout the week, there are more than 35,000 creative pieces on display, as well as screenings and other exhibits.

And don't forget about the awards -- Cannes Lions has been a creative benchmark for more than 60 years. There are four awards ceremonies throughout the week, presenting awards in 17 different categories.
