Today’s digital world creates an ocean of data. If used in the right context, this data can help improve the quality of work and life, identify security threats, and even treat diseases. In the context of business, the insights on the digital traces employees and customers leave every day can give companies tremendous advantages to transform their enterprise. However, only 1% of this data is being analyzed. Businesses lack the expertise, time, and resources to derive and assemble an actionable view of how users interact with their apps.
Last summer we introduced Event Monitoring, an integrated service giving Salesforce customers access to detailed usage data of all their Salesforce apps. It unlocks valuable application data, letting IT troubleshoot and optimize performance to improve end-user experiences, such as load time for custom pages or reports. In addition, Event Monitoring helps customers increase adoption of new Salesforce capabilities such as Lightning UI or the Salesforce1 Mobile App by tracking individual user activity at a granular level — and taking a data-driven approach to increasing user engagement. Finally, with Event Monitoring, customers can address compliance by monitoring access to business-critical data across all users in the organization. Thousands of customers — such as SolarCity, Australian Securities Exchange, and LendingPoint — use Event Monitoring today to strengthen their use of Salesforce.
Event Monitoring is an API-first product by design, which gives customers the flexibility to visualize data however they want using their own tools, whether they’re using Splunk, New Relic, CloudLock, or any other software. But some customers will benefit from a turnkey solution to visualize data so they can get immediate insights with pre-built dashboards and charts. To help these customers, we are introducing the new Event Monitoring Wave App. This app gives customers built-in visualization with 15 customizable dashboards to quickly analyze, drill down into, and act on detailed Salesforce usage information.
This means all Event Monitoring customers can now use Wave’s powerful dashboards to visualize data and then take action. With the Event Monitoring Wave App, customers gain easily consumable insights for the most common use cases — data loss prevention, app performance optimization, and feature adoption — all without needing experts to build custom dashboards.
The Event Monitoring Wave App is collaborative, customizable, and makes it easy to get started with event data. Instead of doing weeks of data integration work tying together log files and a visualization tool, customers gain immediate access to pre-integrated dashboards. They can also create custom dashboards by co-mingling data sets. And most importantly, as with all Wave apps, users can easily share the dashboards with executives and other stakeholder for collaboration.
So what can customers do with the Event Monitoring Wave App? What questions can you answer? Read on!
Example use case: Adoption of Salesforce1
By analyzing login trends for Salesforce1, you can see which groups of users are accessing the mobile app and how they are using it — in other words, what pages and reports they are viewing. You can see the times it is used most as well as the performance of the Salesforce1 Mobile App.
Example use case: A path to a faster case resolution
By tracking the behavior of your top-performing service agents, you can see the pages — knowledge articles, resources, and so on — they access for resolving cases and the most common paths they take. Then, you can use that information to train others on faster case resolution.
Additionally, you can track the usage and adoption of Lightning, custom Visualforce pages, AppExchange apps, Dashboards, and more.
Example use case: Performance of apps with custom code
With Apex dashboards, you can see your fastest- or slowest-performing apex classes. How can this help you? Here’s an example: if you have built a custom apex code into your app (such as a custom function to get geolocation data), you can see that the load time for that piece of code is high. This means the users are experiencing slow app performance. You can then go to your apex code, fix it, and check its performance again. In other words, you can address any performance issues with your apps before your users report them.
Additionally, you can track the performance of your top-used reports, dashboards, Visualforce pages and more to make sure your apps are running smoothly.
Example use case: High-risk login behavior
User Login is one of the 15 powerful dashboards customers can start with to identify abnormal behavior. You can visualize the login trends by user, by IP address, and even by browser type to easily identify patterns, such as excessive logins or failed attempts, and drill down into suspicious events.
Example use case: Indication of data leakage
Report Downloads dashboard gives you a powerful view of reports downloaded by users over time. If you see a huge spike of data downloaded by a particular user who is not expected to export that volume as part of his role, you can take further action to investigate and notify the management.
Additionally, you can answer questions around potential account compromise, behavior of power users, and a variety of other use cases to ensure critical data is being handled within the norms of user compliance.
