One of Mahalo’s proud accomplishments of last year was a social media success. Mahalo was engaged by a large B2B client whose goals were to grow engagement rate, followers, and click through rate for two twitter handles over the course of the year.

At the end our time together we gathered a list of best practices that could be applied to social media campaigns with similar goals. Our work resulted in a sky-high metrics, but our biggest reward was a happy client.

Whether you need social media expertise on an enterprise scale, or for your own small business, we hope these findings spur ideas and growth.

Mahalo’s top 4 findings for a social media campaign that gets results:

1. Quality over quantity

Focus on growing a follower base that cares about your content. This may come at the expense of sheer volume of followers, but it will lead to higher engagement and more valuable relationships. When it comes to followers, we vote quality over quantity.

2. Analyze often and act on insights

Treat new strategies on twitter as a test – whether it’s a paid campaign, varied posting times, or new content types. Once you’ve completed a test, take what you’ve done and analyze it. Then use that analysis to act. It may sound simple but the key is being aware of what works in order to leverage your success moving forward.

3. Get creative!

Think outside the box when it comes to content. Social media can handle the cutting edge creative that you come up with. The sky is the limit!

Need help brainstorming? Look at industry trends to see what’s popular now. Current trends include animated gifs, videos, infographics, quotes, and contests.

4. Keep an eye on the competition

Conduct a yearly audit to study and test competitor trends. An audit should include an analysis of top tweets, most popular content and keywords, statistics such as number of followers, and audience demographics including location, gender, and language.
