The shopping experience is being reimagined as consumers merge the physical and digital. Mobile and social media are now a huge part of the shopping experience.

All signals point to the buying process being more and more about personalization and engagement, with the digital experience complementing the physical experience.

3. The top three detriments cited to shopping in a physical store were “long lines” (40%), “too much traffic” (26%), and it “doesn't carry the merchandise they want” (25%).

5. Two-thirds of holiday shoppers expect to hit the stores on Black Friday, an eight-year high. One-third plan to shop online this weekend via a computer, smartphone, or tablet.

6. 63% of shoppers plan to use in-store, self-help technology, up five percentage points from 2013. Among that group, 59% will use "price checkers" and 56%  will use "self-checkout" kiosks.
