The shopping experience is being reimagined as consumers merge the physical and digital. Mobile and social media are now a huge part of the shopping experience.
All signals point to the buying process being more and more about personalization and engagement, with the digital experience complementing the physical experience.
With this new landscape in mind, we’ve compiled a list of 15 of the biggest shopping trends and predictions expected to impact Black Friday and the entire 2014 holiday retail season:
1. 56% of shoppers surveyed plan to spend about the same amount of money on gifts this year as they did last year.

2. 90% of shoppers would prefer to buy in a brick-and-mortar store across demographic and age groups.

3. The top three detriments cited to shopping in a physical store were “long lines” (40%), “too much traffic” (26%), and it “doesn't carry the merchandise they want” (25%).

5. Two-thirds of holiday shoppers expect to hit the stores on Black Friday, an eight-year high. One-third plan to shop online this weekend via a computer, smartphone, or tablet.

6. 63% of shoppers plan to use in-store, self-help technology, up five percentage points from 2013. Among that group, 59% will use "price checkers" and 56% will use "self-checkout" kiosks.

8. This holiday season, 71% of shoppers expect to engage in “webrooming,” browsing a product online, then going to a store to purchase it.

9. In 2013, mobile visits grew 34% and mobile sales grew 43% on Black Friday alone.
