Two years ago, I hosted the kickoff session for the first Gamification track we held at Dreamforce. At the time, the concept still felt a little crazy and new: adding game mechanics to enhance engagement outside of gaming? Surely this was a passing fad, right? Would Dreamforce attendees even take us seriously?
It turns out they did—in droves—so much so that we expanded the Gamification track into the Emerging Trends track in the following years to be able to encompass other innovative topics like the Internet of Things, Future of Work, Social Business, and others. See our related blog post on DF14Emerging: Emerging Technology Trends at Dreamforce’14 for more on the wider track.
We are excited this year to bring you a tremendous lineup of gamification sessions at Dreamforce '14 that focus on highly successful gamification implementations all running on Salesforce. And while there are plenty of sessions that focus on the gamification of sales organizations, there are also some less commonly gamified areas such as security awareness, healthcare, and personal branding. Many of these stories come from our major gamification partners with applications on the AppExchange: Hoopla, LevelEleven, Badgeville, and Bunchball, but we’ve included some of our own Salesforce-on-Salesforce stories as well.
Our kickoff session will be hosted by one of the foremost experts on enterprise gamification, Gabe Zichermann, bestselling author of The Gamification Revolution and founder of GSummit, the annual gamification conference. He’ll be discussing gamification with a panel of industry leaders: Mike Smalls (Hoopla), Bob Marsh (LevelEleven), Steve Sims (Badgeville), and Rajat Paharia (Bunchball) in our Gamification Keynote: The Future of Engagement. Zichermann will also be presenting in a session later in the week, Redesigning Human Capital Strategies with Gamification, to look at how companies can drastically increase productivity, engagement, and innovation.
For those new to gamification or looking for more insight into its origins, we will be repeating our Finding Flow: A Beginner’s Introduction to Gamification session from last year. As one of the highest rated sessions from DF13, it was so popular that it filled up both times we offered it.
Two other popular sessions are returning from last year as well. The first is on gamifying security awareness here at Salesforce. We place a great value on Trust, and our own Masha Sedova will walk you through how the Trust team built that culture internally through gamification in her session Carrots, Not Sticks: Building Security Awareness through Gamification. The second takes a look at how our own training organization, Salesforce University, implemented gamification to help manage our partner instructor community in our session Gamifying the Salesforce University Instructor Community.
In a different take on community engagement, BlueWolf will be presenting their employee brand ambassador campaign in their session The Power of Chatter: How Bluewolf Used Gamification to Increase Brand Awareness. From a very different setting, Dr. Arup Roy-Burman from USCF Benioff Children’s Hospital will discuss how they use gamification to reduce hospital-acquired infections and increase nurse morale in his session, Healthcare Gamification: How UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Creates Engagement.
And of course, many of our sessions deal with various aspects of gamifying sales organizations. They each bring a unique aspect to the discussion, so try to attend as many as you can.
There you have it: 12 great sessions plus an amazing keynote panel discussion all focused on success stories in gamification built on Salesforce. We hope you’ll join us for these sessions and everything else Dreamforce ’14 has to offer, and join us on Twitter using #DF14Gamification.
