Salesforce.com employee, Alex Ulrich, is set to be featured on and HGTV House Hunters International episode on October 10th. The show will document his apartment hunt while transfering from the salesforce.com San Francisco office, to Sydney, with his girlfriend, Chelsea Englund.

We sat down with Alex and Chelsea to learn about their experience with HGTV and how his dream job helped make the relocation possible.

How did salesforce.com support the move to Australia?

Alex: Salesforce supported this from both a financial and personal perspective. Erik A. King, my manager in San Francisco, encouraged me to explore my options and made the introductions to the Sydney management team. I felt empowered to really direct the growth of my career.

Chelsea: Salesforce sponsored my full working visa, something that in my field of work would have been nearly impossible to get. (I'm a chef by trade currently masquerading as a marketing director for a clothing company.) Though Alex and I have chosen to not get married just yet, it is incredible that Salesforce recognizes me as his partner and wanted to make sure our family could be together to live our dream.

What was the selection process like for House Hunters?

Chelsea: House Hunters is a show Alex and I loved watching together. We lived vicariously through every episode and when we found out that we got the approval to move, I contacted HGTV and told the producer our story. A couple interviews and a casting video filmed on my iPhone later, we got the call that we were going to be on the show!

Any behind-the-scenes House Hunters info you can share that viewers don’t see?

Chelsea: There are a lot of re-dos! Sometimes Alex would have me laughing from something so much that we'd have to try the scene over again. Also, most people don't realize that the 25 minutes of show-time takes five days to film!

No spoilers, but were you happy with your experience on the show?

Chelsea: Yes! It will be so wonderful to have this as a memory that someday we can show our kids (who may or may not have little Aussie accents). Also the show showed us so many areas that we might not have known about otherwise and once we decide to buy in a few years, we will have a much better idea of what suburb will be best for us.

How is life in beautiful Australia?

Chelsea: Every view looks like something on a postcard and the weather is beautiful and sunny for 90% of the year. We've already traveled to the Gold Coast (known for the surfing), Jervis Bay (a beach with literally the whitest sand in the world), and Fiji to SCUBA dive in the coral reefs (and with sharks!). We're very lucky be be living the life we've always dreamed of.
