Imagine launching your career alongside fellow new college graduates, training, living, and learning together. That's the case for grads in our Futureforce Scouts Program; a one year program that is divided up into two six-month phases within our Solution Engineering Org, where grads can develop their careers at the intersection of sales and technology.
“The idea of the Scouts program was based on the need to create the next generation of Solution Engineers (SE), Business Value Consultants and Digital Designers in order to support future growth at Salesforce. To meet the growth needs of the company, the Salesforce SE leaders knew they had to grow the Solution Engineering team organically from within and what better group of young professionals to target than new college graduates.” -- Wally Bruner, Director, Solution Engineering Talent Development
During the hiring process, each Scout candidate is informed of the one-year training schedule and is told of their permanent hub location. In phase one (the first six months) the Scouts train together in our Indianapolis office.
In phase one, Scouts learn about:
Salesforce and who’s who in our organization
Soft and technical skills
The key Salesforce Clouds including: Sales, Service, Marketing and Platform
The first six months not only provides our Scouts a foundation for success as they launch their careers with us, but also opportunities to participate in Salesforce's philanthropic endeavors through our Voluntary Time Off (VTO) program, and build a community of peers that they can stay connected with long after their training ends.
After phase one, the Scouts are deployed to their permanent Salesforce hubs across the U.S., where they will get to practice their newly developed skills in the field by working 1-on-1 with cloud sales customers, partners, and prospects. Upon completion of the twelve-month program, the Scouts graduate and are promoted to their next role in the Solution Engineering organization.
It's a journey best described by those experiencing it. Our inaugural class of Scouts (who are finishing up their training this month) share what life's been like for them at Salesforce.

“After the program, I will be joining the Q-Branch team at HQ in San Francisco!”
It’s uncommon to find an opportunity to learn with such a talented and diverse group of graduates so early in a career. The Scout program offers a space where you can not only learn with your peers, but really get to know them too. It’s amazing to have such an awesome group of friends and support when starting out in the corporate world. This program provides product knowledge that’s almost unparalleled. We are learning the foundations of every aspect of the business that took others years to get introduced to. The emphasis on teaching and developing up front is only going to better prepare us for heading out into the field.
I’ve learned a lot about the importance of knowing your customer. With such a wide scope of products, it’s been crucial to tie everything back to the use of the business. The best advice I could give to someone joining the Scouts program is to be open to all Salesforce has to offer. A product this powerful takes a while to learn. This sounds simple, but being able to speak upon our products and communicate your brand in a professional manner is something that takes time and a lot of practice.

“I'll be moving to Chicago, IL to be a part of Q Branch, the design team that supports sales across the company!”
Imagine going to work every day with 50 of your best friends and that's the Scout Program. We have so many different backgrounds, cultures, areas of knowledge and expertise, nationalities, and past experiences represented in one room. It's amazing that even after we all spread out to our future hubs, we'll still have this network of connections across the country. We all want to see each other succeed
We've covered everything from super technical, product-focused training to soft skills such as presentations and company culture. There are so many resources made available to us just because we're Scouts. I've received multiple certifications, dabbled in various roles, and gained a knowledge of the company as a whole that will help empower me going forward.

“After Indy, I'll be heading to Atlanta, GA!”
In the past six months, I've been able to gain technical skills and knowledge which I previously didn't have, coming from a non-technical background. I was also able to develop my soft skills and take them to another level that I could have never imagined!
I would say to future Scouts: Come with an attitude to learn more than just what is in your job title. At the end of the day, it'll help you appreciate your co-workers and what they do so much more — you’ll have a better understanding of what it really takes to make a deal successful.

“After training, I'm headed to Chicago to work on the Camper SE team!”
The Scouts Program is the first of its kind! I was very impressed with the culture I experienced throughout the interview process. I had offers from a few other companies, but I could see myself growing the furthest and being challenged the most at Salesforce.
The biggest skill I've improved on is true listening. We work a lot on reading between the lines of what someone is saying to uncover what they might be saying underneath (this is extremely helpful in discovery!). I've also had a lot of opportunities to work on my presentation skills and professionally presenting myself in day-to-day life. Solution Engineering isn't a position you learn much about in school, so it's great to have a base knowledge when going into your interviews/first days in the program!
