Thanks to all our environmental Trailblazers, #GreenHeroes, and attendees who helped make Dreamforce ‘18 the most sustainable Dreamforce yet!

This year marked an exciting milestone in our ongoing sustainability journey. In addition to behind-the-scenes initiatives, we brought sustainability to the forefront for all our attendees with the first-ever Climate Summit. The world’s most innovative environmental trailblazers joined us for three inspiring keynote sessions to celebrate the progress being made, explore creative climate change solutions and inspire everyone to get involved. Whether you joined the fun in-person, or watched from afar, join us in celebrating our favorite #GreenHero moments from Dreamforce ‘18.

1. Watching Former Vice President Al Gore’s impassioned keynote on the Sustainability Revolution

We kicked off the Climate Summit with Former Vice President, Al Gore. Missed the keynote? Check out the three takeaways from his session in this interview with Salesforce Director of Sustainability, Sunya Ojure. And hear from some of our employees about the inspiring session!

Last, don't miss the original event coverage of Al Gore's session on the Sustainability Revolution.

2. Reducing our footprint with help from our Green Angels

150+ Green Angel employee volunteers joined us once again to help attendees recycle and compost during lunch hours (did you know that our lunch packaging was 100% compostable?). We also conserved approximately 10 million gallons of water by eliminating beef from the menu throughout the week.

3. Learning about the importance of protecting our oceans

Our second Climate Summit keynote featured renowned marine biologist, Sylvia Earle, joined by Ocean Elder, Nainoa Thompson; celebrity activist, Adrian Grenier; and adidas’ Director of Sustainability, Alexis Haass to talk about water and oceans. Education, awareness, and respect were key themes that evolved during the session: “You can’t protect what you don’t understand,” said Nainoa Thompson.

4. Conserving single-use plastics while giving back

Did you know it takes 1.5x the amount of water in a single-use plastic water bottle to produce it? Plastic pollution is a growing global challenge. That’s why we minimized the presence of single-use plastic water bottles and straws across the Dreamforce campus, and encouraged attendees to do the same. This year, we partnered with Cupanion to bring attendees a safe, durable, reusable bottle that also gives back. Through the Fill it Forward Initiative, refilling the reusable Dreamforce water bottle supported clean water access for 3,000+ people in Tanzania while diverting more than 130,000 single-use bottles at the event and avoiding over 5,000 pounds of waste.

5. Hearing from Inspiring Business Leaders Driving Climate Change Solutions

We closed out the Climate Summit with a session on the role of business in making a positive environmental impact. Salesforce CFO Mark Hawkins interviewed environmental leaders from Lyft, Unilever, and Ecoware Solutions on what businesses and individuals can do to make a difference.

6. Giving Dreamforce badges another life!

All good things must come to an end. As in years past, we offered lanyard recycling for attendees to give their Dreamforce badges another life!

We hope you enjoyed Dreamforce '18 and can’t wait to see you again next year. Join us on our sustainability journey and take the Create a Sustainable Future trail!
