I'm proud to announce that Great Place to Work has named Salesforce the #1 Best Workplace in Europe. This recognition is such an exciting and humbling honor, especially given that each and every employee at Salesforce has contributed to building and maintaining such an exceptional workplace culture. Kudos to you all!
This is the first year that Salesforce was eligible for the Europe-wide award but follows on the heels of recent country-specific recognitions in Ireland, Germany (auf Deutsch), France (en français), the Netherlands (in het Nederlands), and the UK. We are honored to be featured alongside so many other great companies, all of which are deeply committed to fostering inclusive and supportive workplaces. At Salesforce, we are proud to make creating a workplace culture where all employees can do the best work of their careers an absolute priority.
Building a strong workplace culture is a journey — and there is still work to be done ahead — but this award validates the progress we've made as a company over the last few years. It's also an added incentive to continue tirelessly innovating our culture in order to create the best possible workplace for our people.
It's been an exciting year for Salesforce in Europe (EMEA). This year, we grew our workforce across Europe — where we currently have offices in 14 countries — and hosted Salesforce World Tours in our London, Amsterdam, and Paris hubs, CeBIT in Germany, and Basecamps in 25 cities across EMEA. Our incredible and inspiring employees launched EMEA chapters of Ohana groups (employee resource groups) — including Boldforce, Vetforce, and Parentforce. We also encouraged every employee to become an Equality Ally (try the trail) and participated in Pride events in five major cities with the leadership of one of our longest-running employee resource groups, Outforce.
Great Place to Work also recognized Salesforce with a new award: Better for the World. This award celebrates a company that "excels in involving its employees and building value for the community from the organization’s philanthropic, environmental, or other corporate social responsibility initiatives. A company that involves employees in giving back creates a sense of shared prosperity, caring, and fairness in their community."
In the past year, our employees collectively volunteered for more than 150,000 hours in communities across the EMEA region. Volunteering has always been a big part of Salesforce's culture. As we've grown the Salesforce footprint in EMEA, we've also been able to grow our impact. In 2016, for example, Salesforce Germany launched BuddyForce, an initiative to help refugees integrate into German life and culture, build social confidence, and learn critical employment skills. Since then, the program has spread throughout the region, with more than 160 active members volunteering to help refugees feel "at home" in their new homes.
I joined Salesforce because of the incredible world that we are able to build together inside the company and in our communities. I am more inspired than ever about the future of Salesforce across EMEA. We have exciting new products and business updates to announce in the region this year and are continuing to build our recruitment efforts to hire the best and brightest talent. Our goal is to ensure that Salesforce continues to make a big impact across EMEA for years to come.
