Meet Roisin. She moved "across the pond" from Ireland to Chicago. And while that alone is a pretty big move, the career move she's made as a result has impacted her life in an even bigger way. We all know that career decisions often come with a mixed bag of emotions. They're exciting, challenging, and filled with all sorts of anxiety about the unknown. Roisin Hughes, Salesforce's Regional Vice President of Sales took several factors into consideration before making the leap to Salesforce. She focused first on the long-term strategy of this move. Her first role at Salesforce – Sales Development Representative (SDR) – was a move that would propel her career and personal life leaps and bounds forward.
We took a few moments to speak to Roisin about why she chose to land at Salesforce. Here are the three reasons that immediately came to mind:
Salesforce's continued growth provides employees with a number of ways to progress in their careers. That growth, coupled with a fantastic leadership team focused on mentoring and employee support and development, is what landed me a total of six promotions in my time here as well as a move from being an individual contributor to being one of the Sales team's leaders.
A day at Salesforce is like a week at most other companies. A week is like a month. A year is like a decade. The volume of quality interactions, the aptitude and acumen of the employees, and the rocket-ship that is our product produces a culture of development that helps you reach your full potential – both personally and professionally.
I was also delighted to find that the rewards at Salesforce are generous and unparalleled: competitive bonus structure, Employee Stock Program, exceptional healthcare benefits, and so much more. I'm so happy I took the leap – and haven't looked back since!
This company truly has a soul. We care about every single customer, every single employee, and every community where we live and work. When I first joined as an SDR, my manager (Julie) at the time was the first to show me what the "Salesforce soul" is all about. She helped me grow my skill set, giving me the confidence to invest in a sales career. She also went above and beyond simply caring about my professional goals. When she realized that I was in a long-distance relationship with my then-girlfriend in the U.S., she championed getting my visa sponsored so I could move over to our new Chicago office. She didn't have to do this. But she did because she believed that I would add value to the new office. She also knew it would make me incredibly happy.
Three years later, I proposed to my wife on the banks of Lake Michigan. We are now expecting our first child in August. I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, that I owe my marriage and soon-to-be family to the fact that Salesforce took a human-centric approach to my overall life situation and invested in me in a way that no other company ever has.
I consider myself incredibly lucky to work for a company that wholeheartedly champions equality in the way that Salesforce does. Celebrating diversity and promoting inclusion are values near and dear to my heart. When my wife and I first decided to expand our family, we learned that traditional insurance did not cover IVF treatment for LGBTQ couples.
Luckily, Salesforce's insurance includes everyone. They even expanded the coverage to offer more treatments – once again, going above and beyond. My wife and I will forever be grateful for that. And as a woman, I feel empowered and supported to pursue my personal and professional ambitions at Salesforce. The strides we have taken to ensure equality for all are nothing short of incredible. I actually love that we admit, as a company, that our journey toward equality for all is not yet over.
I am from Ireland but moved to Chicago six years ago. I have loved every moment and have explored every inch of this city ever since. I adore traveling, I dabble in photography, and I am passionate about watching and playing most sports. I live in Ravenswood with my wife, Kristen, and dog, Harvey.
