A new report from Forrester shows that the enterprise is struggling to keep up with a tidal wave of mobile devices from workers. Forrester says that 66% of workers use two or more devices at work, and 12% use tablets.

• IT organizations Must Control The Multifaceted Mobile device and application Landscape Business and technology solutions, including mobile device and security management services, bring-your-own-device (BYOD) programs, and mobile application stores,

The result is further momentum for BYOT/BYOD. Fully 70% of workers got to choose their own tablet, while 67% could pick their own smart phone.

The report recommends that IT prepare for a complex mobile environment in the following ways:

• Identify and document a clearly defined, and potentially tiered, BYOD strategy.
• Clearly define metrics to evaluate the impact of mobility solutions.
• Consider using managed and SaaS delivery options for mobility services.
• Proactively reassess your corporate mobility strategy.

It looks like the days of a homogeneous IT environment are clearly numbered.
