This guest post is from Delta Air Lines — an official Dreamforce '18 sponsor and Salesforce customer.
With more than 170,000 attendees expected at Dreamforce ‘18, it’s important that everyone start the week feeling energized and well — especially if you are traveling to San Francisco from another city, state, or country. At Delta, we’re proud to run the best operation in the world, ensuring you get to your destination safely and on time, and we’ve invested billions in the customer experience over the past few years to make sure you get there in comfort and style and arrive feeling well, too.
We’ve incorporated wellness into our experience in a number of ways, including through our farm-fresh, nutritious meals and through wellness-focused in-flight programming and partnerships.
Here are a few ways you can make sure you arrive feeling well and ready for a great week:
With more investments being made in improving airport and airline food options, it’s easier than ever to eat healthy while traveling. For example, Delta continues to focus on providing healthy choices onboard with its rotating Flight Fuel menu, Main Cabin snack offerings, and free Main Cabin meal options (on select longer flights). But regardless of your airline, there are a few habits you can adopt to eat healthy while on the road:
Call ahead. If you have dietary restrictions, plan ahead by calling your airline to request a specific meal.
Arrive early. Want to eat before your flight? Arrive early so you have time to peruse food kiosks and restaurants for healthy offerings.
Choose healthy snacks. With a ranking of “excellent” in The Diet Detective’s annual Airline Food Investigation, Delta offers a variety of healthy options for snacking in the air, including Squirrel Brand Peanuts, Pretzel Perfection Snacks Snack Mix, KIND Dark Chocolate Chunk bars, and more. Snacks such as almonds, baby carrots, fruit or protein bars are also easy options.
Check the menu. Delta provides a “key” on our menus for snack items that are non-GMO, vegan, gluten-free, kosher and lacto-ovo vegetarian. We’re also proud to offer a non-GMO snack box: the Tapas box.
It’s important to keep your blood flowing while flying, and one of the best ways to do that is by stretching and moving around. Delta’s First Class and Comfort+ (and Delta One and Delta Premium Select if you’re traveling internationally) cabins offer additional legroom and amenities that make stretching out easier, but there are plenty of movements you can do regardless of your cabin of service.
Choose an aisle seat. For longer flights, an aisle seat makes it easier to get up when you need to use the restroom and stretch your legs, which can improve circulation, limit discomfort, and even help the time pass.
Keep your blood pumping from the comfort of your own seat. Maybe the seat belt sign is on, or maybe you would just rather stay in your seat. Either way, it’s easy to get a good stretch in while seated. Try these easy, practical in-flight stretches curated by Delta and Equinox fitness clubs to relieve tension and increase blood flow while in-flight.
With travel often comes jet lag, but it’s important to help your body adjust to the new time zone as quickly as possible to get the most out of your week at Dreamforce. In July, Delta partnered with Equinox to use the power of exercise to fight jet lag through Sweatlag, a custom workout routine proven to boost energy and endorphins while offsetting fatigue from lengthy travel. Check out some of the workout videos below — the moves can even be done right in your hotel room!
Earlier this year, Delta partnered with Dr. Jonathan Leary for a seminar on the importance of incorporating traveler health, safety, productivity, and wellness into travel programs. Here are a few of his tips for staying well at 30,000 feet:
Stay Hydrated: You’ve heard this one before, but be sure to drink lots of water to stay hydrated throughout your journey.
Oregano Oil: A magic elixir of sorts, oregano oil is a natural antibiotic and can be used to ward off germs in flight.
Lacrosse Ball: For longer flights, a lacrosse ball can be used to roll out muscles and prevent cramping.
Essential Oils: Packaged in bottles that are typically less than 3.5 oz, essential oils are carry-on friendly and offer a host of wellness-promoting benefits, from stress and pain relief to increase energy and focus.
Magnesium: With time zone changes can come changes in your sleep patterns, meal times, and even digestion. A magnesium supplement can help prevent digestion issues.
