In an organization of 30,000 people who are all moving fast, the only way we can achieve our goals and get to where we want to be is if we are all moving in the same direction. That's why at Salesforce, transparency and alignment have been embedded into the very fabric of our company since day one through the V2MOM.
The V2MOM, as Marc describes in “Behind the Cloud,” stands for Vision, Values, Methods, Obstacles, and Measures. The V2MOM process starts with Marc crafting and honing the corporate V2MOM with his direct reports. Then it cascades down throughout the organization until every single employee has a V2MOM that aligns with their immediate team, their broader department, and the entire company.
As Salesforce started growing rapidly, we needed to find a way to maintain transparency across our 30,000 person organization. So, we built a mobile app that took our V2MOMs out of PowerPoints and Chatter files and made them easily accessible in an app, greatly increasing transparency and collaboration.
Our Employee Success team partnered with Salesforce’s IT team to develop an app to power our alignment process. The V2MOM app is a mobile-friendly, easy-to-use app that allows for constant iteration and high visibility. The best part? It’s built right on the Salesforce Lightning Platform, which our employees use every day. Through the app, every employee’s V2MOM is published and accessible to the rest of the company on our Chatter profiles. Robust search functionality means new hires and tenured employees alike can search for anyone by name—including our CEO—and see current and prior year V2MOMsBut it’s not enough to just publish a V2MOM and call it a day. The real value behind a V2MOM is the ability to constantly iterate and adapt based on changing business needs. Our mobile V2MOM app makes editing a V2MOM quick and easy, while on the go or during a one-on-one meeting. The app also enables employees to track their progress in real-time, driving deeper accountability.
The partnership between the Employee Success team and our IT leaders to build the V2MOM app means that all employees at Salesforce can clearly see how their day-to-day jobs align with the corporate vision. That has proven to be incredibly valuable for us as an organization when it comes to engaging our employees. In fact, 96% of our employees say they are willing to give extra to get the job done. We think understanding their share of the tasks and where we are going as a company via the V2MOM process goes a long way toward that incredible statistic.
