During Dreamforce 2016, we held the second annual Women & Equality Summit. This day was dedicated to topics focused on economic equality, diversity, inclusion, the role business leaders can play, and more. Salesforce is an active supporter for equality and we were excited to continue the conversation with visionary speakers and real, honest conversations. This episode is Part 1 of our coverage of the Women & Equality Summit.
The word "leadership" is multi-faceted. For women today, it takes on meanings both at work and at home. We're looking at leadership lessons from two world-changing women when it comes to the changing definition of family and home life. Anne-Marie Slaughter is President of New America Think Tank and wrote one of the most popular articles in recent memory called "Why Women Still Can't Have It All." The struggle of women having it all goes beyond affordable childcare and maternity leave, she argues, and goes back to larger issues at work and in society. Joining Slaughter is Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD, a media monitoring organization founded by LGBTQ people in the media. Ellis's background and passion in media helped to champion her current activism and work for the LGBTQ community. Both women sat down with SVP of Salesforce, Leyla Seka, for an insightful panel of leadership lessons, family lessons, and how women are redefining their roles both at work and at home.
What does it take to drive change and offer advice on breaking into the world of corporate boards? Having women in the boardroom is more important now than ever. In this panel, we will hear from a powerhouse group of women who have earned a boardroom seat. They have the amazing opportunity to impact change from the top. Sukinder Singh Cassidy serves on the boards of Ericsson and TripAdvisor. She is the founder of theBoardlist, a LinkedIn-like tool that matches peer-endorsed women with companies seeking board diversity. Clara Shih, CEO and Founder of Hearsay Social, serves on the board of Starbucks. Claire Hughes Johnson, COO of Stripe, sits on the board of Hallmark Cards, Inc. and as a Trustee of Milton Academy. In this panel, moderated by Forbes Staff Writer, Alex Konrad, we hear from these three inspiring women on life in the boardroom.
