Today, we’re thrilled to announce that Salesforce has joined the ranks of the Fortune 500—Fortune Magazine’s annual ranking of the largest corporations in the United States. Today, we debuted at No. 483, up from last year’s rank of 599.
So why is this such a big deal?
It all goes back to our origin story. Salesforce was founded in 1999 with a vision to reinvent customer relationship management in the cloud. We disrupted the software industry with a new, cloud-based technology model; a new business model for software as a service; and a new philanthropic model, wherein we donate 1% of our equity, 1% of our employee time, and 1% of our product to communities in need. It was a big, bold move, and it has paid off in exciting ways.
“This is a huge milestone for Salesforce, and a great validation of our dedication to the cloud and customer success, as well as the trust our customers place in us," said Salesforce founder, Chairman and CEO Marc Benioff said. "With our proven business model and the incredible momentum of our Customer Success Platform, Salesforce is driving to be the fastest enterprise software company to $10 billion, which has always been our dream.”
