“I have a right to fulfill my dreams. I have a right to pursue any career I choose. I have a right to Excel without malicious interference. I have a right to be treated with respect in my professional and personal lives … I have a right to be myself, not be defined by stereotypes.”

That is the inspiring mantra of journalist, author, and empowerment advocate Gretchen Carlson.

In 2016, Carlson helped pave the way for the #MeToo movement with her historic sexual harassment lawsuit against Roger Ailes, the former chairman of Fox News.

Today, she is putting her network, knowledge, and personal experience to battle in the fight to reform institutions that have historically kept women silent.

“It really starts at the top,” says Carlson. “And I always say the buck stops there. So leaders need to be open with their employees and say, ‘the buck stops with me’ and ‘I'm not going to tolerate this’.”

Carlson’s message is one that resonates with working women everywhere, but it’s not a message that should stop there. This is an issue that affects all of us, not just women and girls, but also men and boys.

Carlson joined us at Dreamforce ‘19 to discuss the far-reaching impact of historic company cultures and what you can do to encourage equality at work and in life.
