Really great salespeople all share a common trait: They’re disciplined.

Discipline comes from an internal focus, sure, but your commitment to your own work is aided immensely by smarter CRMs and a suite of other tools.

Below is a list of 12 such tools that can help any salesperson be more productive, more organized, more collaborative and ultimately more effective at his or her job.

Productivity and Organization Tools

The discipline that great sales performance requires entails an ability to sit down and focus on a task at hand, even a mundane task at 8:00 a.m. on a Monday. The secret to handling such tasks? Get organized and work quickly, checking them off your to-do list as you go. Here are three tools to help you do that:

Quip is one of the most unique tools in this "Productivity and Organization Tools" bucket, as it not only works as a productivity suite to unite docs, notes, spreadsheets, task lists, etc., but it also works as a prime tool for real-time collaboration and communication. It lets you chat, co-edit, and make comments on docs that you work on with your team. If you're also using Salesforce, your data is updated live in Quip— meaning when it's updated in Salesforce, it's automatically updated in Quip too.

RescueTime is to productivity as a fitness tracker is to health. The software tracks how you spend your time, then displays that information visually so you can better allocate that precious resource.

It might be best to think of Evernote as an external brain, where all of your documents, notes and thoughts can live. Then, you can sync all of that brainwork across any number of devices. (Read here on how one of our customers is using Evernote with SalesforceIQ!)

Evernote founder Phil Libin tells the Harvard Business Review that this approach to productivity simply reflects how people work these days. “You’re not working for hours at a time at your desk for several days in a row, and then only communicating when you’re done,” he says. “You’re working for a few minutes and then immediately communicating about what you just did, immediately getting feedback, immediately changing it. Not probably doing it from your office desk most of the time, but kind of doing it from wherever.”

Pocket is a perfect tool for saving an article, an infographic, a video or any other piece of information for later. This allows you to organize your reading — any of the places you go to for great ideas — without derailing your train of thought. This way, you can block off your work as necessary. Call and email prospects now, and know that you’ll have your reading queued up for when your mind is ready to explore those thoughts.

Tools for Communication and Collaboration

Our VP of Sales, Armando Mann, calls sales a team sport because it is such an inherently collaborative activity. So, any tools that can help you collaborate more transparently and communicate more clearly will help you sell better. Here are five tools to help you do that:

Slack lets teams organize group chats around topics or tasks, share files seamlessly and send direct messages so that internal communication can be made transparent without being interruptive. The team at Slack recently surveyed more than 1600 of its own users and found, on average, teams using Slack reported a 32% uptick in productivity.

The team at join.me built their web conferencing software to be as intuitive and easy to use as possible. You just have to push a button to start a conference call, join meetings or share screens. With fewer potential technical issues, join.me frees your teams up to focus on simply communicating with one another.

In essence, Trello is simply a digital board for managing team projects and personal tasks, but a core group of its 10 million-plus users loudly evangelize its simple functionality. If your sales team finds using a whiteboard helpful for sharing ideas, Trello is a great next step for sharing ideas and tasks with team members wherever they are. You can also read a great little case study on how one of our customers is using Trello with SalesforceIQ here!

DocSend adds a layer of intelligence to digital sales materials. With DocSend, you can see who views your document and even how long each person spends looking at individual pages. This way, you can see whether your messages resonate with leads much more honestly than via verbal feedback.

Box, which stores and lets you share files with any collaborators you choose, says more than 50,000 businesses globally rely on its services. What makes Box especially helpful is it allows you to automate repeatable tasks such as reviewing or signing off on a document. (Also, did you know that Box sells smart with SalesforceIQ? Tools That Simplify Daily Tasks

For the same reasons we think an intelligent CRM should automate tasks such as data entry, we advocate using software that can automate out mundane or time-consuming tasks. Here are four tools for doing just that:

Anyone who has to travel frequently knows the hassle of expense reporting. This is often done on a Saturday, when your bed is covered with piles of receipts. Concur automates much of the work of expense reporting by letting you snap a photo of your receipt. The app then populates relevant entries with the information from the receipt.

Digitizing that data also makes compliance easier to track, expense requests faster to process and company expenditure intelligence immediately accessible.

LastPass is an easy-to-use password manager that creates secure, hard-to-crack passwords for all of the sites and apps you log into regularly. You only need to remember one password, the one for LastPass, which frees up precious head space and keeps you from getting locked out of anywhere.

If you spend any amount of time online, you’ll not only accumulate a collection of passwords but also subscriptions to any number of email newsletters. Unroll.me helps you clean up your inbox by unsubscribing from any such alerts and promotions with one click.

Dasheroo’s team reports that most businesses use 15 to 20 different third-party apps or platforms such as Twitter, LinkedIn or Google Analytics. Each has its own login specifications and window or browser tab, which can be overwhelming to manage. To streamline the navigation from place to place, Dasheroo has created a single dashboard where you can manage all of those tools and crunch the data they produce for new business insights.

We hope some of these tools can help you work smarter; are there any others that you use to maximize your day? Tweet us at @SalesforceIQ with #sellsmarter to share the powertools you use!
