As Founder and CEO, Jeff Tunis has guided the company from a small startup to a nation-wide service provider. In this latest “Small Business Spotlight” interview, he shares the importance of constantly innovating and never being satisfied with the status quo.
1. What made you decide to start/make the jump to your company today?
In 2007 my prior business was acquired giving me the opportunity to move forward and take advantage of the many untapped opportunities in the Facilities Maintenance industry. Advanced Service Solutions, Inc. was created utilizing the capital and knowledge learned from my prior business which allowed me to expand our service area giving us a national presence.
2. How do you balance the multiple hats that you are required to wear?
I am very fortunate to have a team of experienced support staff that I can delegate specific tasks ensuring that everything is handled efficiently. This allows me to effectively monitor the many facets of our operation without skipping a beat.
3. What are the top three company priorities that you focus on?
Providing exceptional service and validating the service we offer to our clients is 2nd to none.
Ensuring that our internal operations are as efficient as possible to continue providing our cost effective solutions to our clients.
4. How do you prioritize initiatives? Walk us through how you determine where you invest time, people, and dollars.
First we need to identify how we progressed as a company and if we fell short of our expectations. From there we formulate a strategic plan to address our shortcomings and analyze the cost associated with implementing our plan. If there are holes to be filled we find ways to fill them. We are a well-managed company which affords us the ability to make necessary adjustments as needed and we are prepared to do this at all costs.
5. Walk us through the characteristics that you look for when hiring top talent.
First impressions are big. We look for individuals who possess strong work ethic, integrity, morals, and specific industry experience. It is important that we hire individuals with long term goals that are looking to grow with the company. All prospective additions to our team need to see the big picture and be willing to dedicate the time needed to become successful.
