In addition to sharing the event space that will hold Salesforce's annual Dreamforce conference in three months, Google's annual conference, Google I/O, shared something else in common with Salesforce this week: a focus on wearable technology.
Early indications were that the Google keynote would be heavily Android-focused, and it did not disappoint.
With the announcement of Android 5.0, Android TV, Android Auto, and Android Wear (just to name a few), Google made its mobile ambitions crystal clear. Yesterday's keynote was a roadmap for Google’s plan to take its mobile OS to every part of your life: from your wristwatch, to your car, to your television, and even into your workplace.
Enter Salesforce's new focus, Salesforce Wear, the industry's first initiative for wearable computing in the enterprise.

As consumers become more mobile, wearable technology is slowly moving across the line from their personal lives and into the workplace. According to research by Goldsmiths, University of London, "wearable devices designed to help improve posture and concentration could boost productivity by 8% in an office," the BBC reported in April.
Salesforce has been quick to champion that move from the very beginning, introducing the all-in-one mobile app and platform Salesforce1, allowing Salesforce users to run their entire business from their phone wherever they are. Salesforce Wear is the next step in the journey to serve the new connected workforce.
“Wearables are the next phase of the mobile revolution,” said Daniel Debow, SVP, emerging technologies, salesforce.com. “With Salesforce Wear, companies can now capture the massive opportunity these devices offer to connect with customers in new ways.”
The Salesforce Wear initiative includes support for Android Wear, ARM, Fitbit, Pebble, Philips, Samsung and other devices to accelerate the adoption of wearables in the enterprise. Yesterday's keynote highlighted just what Android Wear and Salesforce Wear can look like together.
Wearable technology is obviously on the rise, and Google and Salesforce are taking great strides to help companies and their employees realize the full potential of the technology in the enterprise.
