Say the date out loud and you’ll know why May the 4th has been appropriated by fans of the movie franchise as “Star Wars Day.”
In honor of this momentous 24 hours, we’d like to reflect on the sage wisdom the “Star Wars” films have imparted to us.
We hope you find these motivational, and, of course, “may the (Sales)force be with you.”
Don’t overthink, don’t worry--just commit and do it. Words of wisdom that apply in all aspects of life.
Be confident. Others will recognize and respect your confidence. Take pride in what you are selling and how you carry yourself.
But, don’t be too confident. No matter how well you’re performing, you need to stay on top of your game. Overconfidence can easily lead to sloppy mistakes.
You might think you need a large, corporate-sized sales team to be successful and make waves, but small, scrappy teams are agile and passionate.
It may not feel like it at the time, but often success comes from overcoming failure. Don’t let a recent bad sales call or missed opportunity slow you down. Learn, dust off, and move forward.
Develop good sales habits. Cutting corners to cope during a busy period can quickly become the norm. Hold yourself to higher standards.
Sometimes closing a sale can feel as improbable as successfully navigating an asteroid field. Avoid focusing too heavily on the negative--it’s counter-productive.
Don’t assume you know what your prospect is thinking or that you know what to expect from a call. Do your due diligence and research to identify a prospect’s problem before a pitch.
The modern customer is too savvy for sales tricks--so don’t bother. Be straightforward and keep in mind that sometimes it’s all about the bottom line!
Being a strong sales leader means staying on task. Sure, some days you may wish you had force choke powers to keep your team marching towards quota, but fortunately all they really need is firm guidance.
