How did your company celebrate Earth Day 2014? At salesforce.com, we're committed to environmental responsibility year round and we love to spend April 22nd, and beyond, giving back. The great news is, no matter what the size of your organization, every employee, in every department, can make a difference, contribute to sustainability, and truly make the world a better place.
Here are a few ideas on getting everyone involved from the lessons we’ve picked up over the years:
Give back by volunteering at an environmentally focused non-profit, such as a park cleanup or school garden. Extend the reach by inviting your customers and partners to join in too. Getting out of the office together creates unique opportunities for employees to connect and a stronger sense of company pride.
Throw an e-waste recycling drive in the office, or ask employees to pledge to do at least one thing for the environment. Make it social (we use Chatter) so employees can see what everyone else is doing and be inspired by their peers.
Many employees don't know where to start, but are interested in learning more. Encourage new behaviors by bringing in speakers with an environmental story, or throwing a fair with vendors to teach employees to reduce their impact at home and work.
Announce a new public goal to reduce your environmental impact, or a new giving program focused on the environment. You can even start small and simply make an internal commitment to green one part of your operations. Even switching to recycled paper or eliminating plastic water bottles goes a long way.
Celebrate and recognize the achievements of individuals at your company for their efforts in greening their job, as well as their personal life. At salesforce.com, we call out our #GreenHeroes and make sure managers know how their team members are giving back.
