About a year after Marc Benioff started salesforce.com, he was inspired by General Colin Powell to integrate philanthropy into his business. And while salesforce.com was still a small start up hosted in Marc’s apartment, the Salesforce.com Foundation was born. The Salesforce.com Foundation is based on a simple idea: Leverage salesforce.com's people, technology and resources to build collective knowledge and enable action to improve communities throughout the world. The Salesforce.com Foundation is an organization with a sustainable business model, driven by a social change mission, with community engagement for social good at its core.

When founded, Marc had a simple, but powerful, vision for the Foundation—the 1:1:1 model aimed to donate 1% of salesforce.com equity, 1% of his employees' time, and 1% of his product to improving communities around the world.

Little did he know that some 10+ years later, that vision would translate into:

1-1-1
Salesforce.com brings this model directly to Dreamforce.  Learn how here:

1. Foundation Specific Atmosphere

As part of the social enterprise, salesforce.com has 2,500 people from non-profits, higher education, and the foundation representing the US and 20 other countries at Dreamforce.  Hang out in the Foundation Zone within the Community Success Zone in the Hilton along with the Success Clinics and Community Group. And be sure to check out the Partner Expo specialized for foundation attendees.

2.  Dedicated Education

This year, non-profits, higher education and the foundation will have 70 designated sessions, up from 16 in 2012. Are you passionate about giving back?  These sessions should be of interest to you as well. We have special guests speaking to these issues, including the Prime Minister of Haiti in the government track.  He will be demoing the iPad app built on the Salesforce Platform where he runs the Haitian government.

Additional education can be accessed through theater programming in the Foundation Zone.  These include live demos on topics such as fundraising, recruitment, social advocacy and communities, as well as customer stories.  Informal and open lunches occur on a daily basis, each focusing on specific topics—mission driven for the non-profit space, including international development and education reform.

3.  Pro Bono Opportunities

ProBono PledgeBeyond education, we are also bringing the Foundation values into practice on the Dreamforce campus.  We will be campaigning for pro-bono services for non-profit customers at Dreamforce.  Pro bono work is a regular practice within salesforce.com, and we want to encourage all attendees to get involved as well.  Learn more about pro bono work on Tuesday from 1:30-3:30pm in the Foundation Zone.  Meet with MVPs and get advice on reports and dashboards, campaign management, donation management and communities.  And on Thursday from 9am to 10am join a session on best practices for leveraging pro bono services in your non-profit.

4.  Volunteering Opportunities

Project Night Night

Last year we had great volunteer activities at Dreamforce, and this year we are doing it again.  On
Wednesday from 9am to 4pm Foundation Day will take place on the plaza.  From 9am until 11am help put together “Night Night” kits with Project Night Night.  From noon until 3pm, UCSF, salesforce.com Foundation and the Exploratorium are partnering together to meet the emotional and developmental needs of hospitalized kids.  Join this incredible activity in the plaza and bring out your inner kid.

5.  Giving Back at the Gala

This year, even the Gala is focused on giving back. This is the first year that we will be integrating the Gala with the UCSF Benefit Concert.  We are calling it the Concert for Kids benefiting the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital and Oakland Children's Hospital.  This is also the first year that those who aren’t full conference attendees can attend the show by purchasing benefit tickets here.  Can’t attend the Gala?  Text “4KIDS” to 501-501 to donate $10 to the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital.
