This week our televisions give us something exciting to sink our teeth into: Shark Week! It's Discovery Channel’s infamous week of our favorite underwater creature including shows such as Sharkzilla and Return of Jaws.

With the theme of sharks swimming around us, we thought about our sales readers and how they're nothing like Shark Week. Here are 20 reasons why.

1. It's a bad week to be a seal. It's a good week to sit outside and chat with a prospect.

2. Shark Week is only one week long. Salespeople do their job 365 days a year.

3. Shark Week has had a similar format since the 1980s. Salespeople are constantly adjusting their approach with the changing market.

4. Salespeople connect with people. Sharks eat people.

5. Shark Week evokes fear. Salespeople dilute buyer's fears.

6. You likely won't test the waters during Shark Week. Salespeople are constantly testing the waters.

7. Shark Week reveals old items from the past, like a prehistoric Megalodon tooth. Salespeople reveal new and exciting opportunities.

8. Few will come face to face with a shark. Many will come face to face with a good sales deal.

9. Shark Week still talks about classic moments like Jaws. Salespeople talk about future opportunities and new moments they can create.

10. Shark Week shares tips to avoid a shark attack. Salespeople make their own tips for avoiding a lost deal.

11. Salespeople encourage prospects to become satisfied customers. Shark Week encourages viewers to scream, "Sharkzilla!"

12. Sharks make enemies. Salespeople make phone calls.

13. A good salesperson has a prospect eating out of the palm of their hand. A shark eats that hand.

13. Salespeople are politely persistent. A shark doesn't know what that means.

14. Shark Week starts and ends quickly. Salespeople create long-lasting relationships.

15. Shark Week is about sharks. Salespeople are about people.

16. Most people think about sharks once a year (during Shark Week). Salespeople think about their line of business 24/7.

17.  Good salespeople can sell ice to an Eskimo. A shark might eat that Eskimo.

18. Shark Week fans may not know much about sharks, but they like to be entertained. Salespeople know their product inside and out and work to share that knowledge with others.

19. Salespeople converse with prospects over a nice lunch. Sharks skip the small talk.

20. When salespeople know the opportuntiy is right, they grab that leg and won't let go. Sharks...oh wait...
