"What an amazing idea and a great way to give back."
- Angie, Oracle OpenWorld attendee
This year at Oracle Open World 2011, Salesforce.com decided to do things a bit differently. For three days, our booth in the expo hall was dedicated to the Salesforce.com Foundation. We focused on our 1:1:1 philanthropy model where we donate 1% product, 1% equity, and most importantly for the conference, 1% time back to the community. This week we partnered with four amazing organizations and had overwhelming success.
Project Night Night kicked off the conference on Monday assembling Night Night Packages and “no sew” blankets to be distributed (that night!) to homeless youth at 46 nearby shelters. Thanks to hundreds of conference attendee volunteers, 112 blankets and 550 Night Night Packages, including a stuffed animal, blanket, 2 books, and a tote bag were completed. Check out a video of the volunteers in action!
Tuesday was non-stop volunteering action with the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in the morning and World Vision in the afternoon. With UCSF, we assembled 1,500 snack kits for families who arrive urgently to the hospital due to a child's sudden illness. This will allow parents to take care of themselves and stay at their child's bedside in support of the child and the whole family. In the afternoon, we took the volunteering international with World Vision to assemble over 1,000 caregiver packages for those taking care of AIDS patients in Ethiopia.
Playworks brought it home on Wednesday, setting up a foursquare court in the booth and providing the materials to build 500 back-to-school backpacks, which contain the materials to complete over 100,000 hours of schoolwork. Additionally, volunteers took precious time to respond to letters written by local 4th and 5th graders about leadership. These responses are priceless to these students, who all strive to become great leaders one day.
A HUGE thank you goes out to our nonprofit partners and most importantly, the volunteers. Thanks for stopping by our booth and giving a few minutes of your time for the community!
