Today our friends at Sensis and Yellow Pages, partnered with AIMIA to produce a report on the usage of social media in Australia. We saw three key take aways for Australian businesses:

  1. More Users on Mobile than Not - 67% of users access social sites from a smart phone. Content needs to be mobile enabled - In particular don't be caught out by apps you add to your Facebook page, not all work on mobile.
  2. Small Business - only 30% of small businesses and 47% of medium sized businesses have a social media presence. In addition of SMBs, only 12% thought social would improve sales, but of those who are active in social media, 32% saw an increase in revenue.
  3. Path to Purchase - 1 in 5 australian users researched a purchase and 58% went on to make a purchase after consulting social channels. Of those purchases, half were in bricks and mortar stores - social media isn't just for online pure-plays!

Angela Tangas from Sensis will be presenting the full findings and giving her advice on what small business can do to take advantage of these trends at Salesforce at CeBIT 28th May, Sydney.
