For anyone who has read my other blog posts on SEM and SEO, you'd know that I'm really interested in Search Marketing. Well, I'm also very interested in the social media landscape.

Anyone looking for small businesses in Australia will often turn to the "White Pages" run by Sensis. Sensis also publishes the famous Yellow Pages Online directory and they have a large pool of small business customers in the Australian directory.

The reason why I'm talking about Sensis, is because I came across an excellent source of information on small businesses in a recent report by them titled: The Sensis eBusiness Report 2012.

Sensis has been running this survey since 2005 and this report surveyed over 1,800 small and medium-sized (SME) businesses from all over Australia.

This report is a wealth of information and contains a lot of survey data on the following topics relevant to SMEs such as:

  • E-Mail usage
  • E-mail marketing
  • Building and managing a website
  • Website hosting
  • Online advertising
  • Social Media usage
  • customer relationship management (CRM) usages
  • Wireless e-business
  • and more...

Salesforce.com has a large number of SME customers, so what I've decided to do is pull out some key points around how social media marketing is being used by Australian small businesses. This information is scattered throughout this 38 pages document. Rather than have you go though the document to fish out the information, I have summariesed the key findings and put it into the following infographic.
