Salesforce Italy was recognised as one of the Best Workplaces in Italy by Great Place to Work. This is our first time on this list.

When I joined Salesforce about two months ago, I knew then that this was a special place. Starting a new position while working remotely during an ongoing global pandemic is anything but easy. As a leader, I believe in building outstanding teams, enabling people to do the best work of their lives, and developing strong relationships. I was able to do this from day one because Salesforce enables us to succeed from anywhere.

Since I joined Salesforce, I've seen how our team in Italy has built an amazing workplace through commitment, flexibility, and intention. This would not have been possible without our fantastic people here in Italy, constantly going the extra mile for each other and our customers.

I want to take this moment to recognise all of their achievements of the past year. At the same time, I also want to look ahead and think about how we can further advance a great employee experience in this work-from-anywhere world we are living in.

Reimagining the workplace experience

Italy was one of the first countries in Europe to be hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, and we were hit hard. Almost overnight, the pandemic changed the way we work and collaborate. We closed our offices, started working from home, and reimagined customer meetings and events as virtual experiences.

At Salesforce, we’ve always been as intentional about our culture as we are about our business and we had to find a way to continue to cultivate our culture and foster a great employee experience in a work-from-anywhere environment.

While we can’t come together in our offices, we stay connected through virtual meetings, webinars, and remote activities with our customers and with each other. We don’t limit ourselves to business-related updates, we also connect on a personal level and share tips and tricks on working from home, prioritising health and wellbeing. This connection to colleagues helps our people stay plugged into our culture and values.

Our people bring our culture to life

Despite the challenges of the initial lockdown, many of our employees came together by volunteering to host virtual yoga sessions, cooking lessons, or fun activities like Bingo to support their colleagues. We also continued to support our communities by finding new ways to give back virtually.

Our Equality Groups — employee-led, organised groups centred around common life experiences, backgrounds, and alyship — got creative and organised virtual events and volunteering activities to help further good causes while staying connected. We celebrated Pride together virtually, shared our expertise in pro bono projects, and broadened our horizons in virtual events.

While we’ve all been creating ways to make work from home an engaged experience, many of us are still looking forward to returning to our offices. We learned from our employees that 80% of employees want to maintain a connection to a physical space. So we are giving employees flexibility in how, when, and where they work. By keeping flexibility top of mind, we empower our people to get the job done while keeping health and safety our top priority.

I am beyond grateful to be part of the Salesforce community and excited to see what the future may bring.
