It’s that time of year again. Dreamforce, the world’s largest software conference, is about to explode into San Francisco for a week starting from 4 October… and for the first time in five years, I’m not going. It’s OK, because I’ve made the 14-hour trek across the Pacific to Dreamforce four times already. And, who needs jet lag, right?
Except it’s not OK! I’m suffering from a serious case of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out syndrome) and it’s getting worse with every passing day.
This morning I read this interview with Marc Benioff on Bloomberg TV where he talks about AI for everyone and nearly 200,000 people flooding in for the show – I’m feeling the onset of FOMO already. Hop onto Dreamforce.com and the line up is mind blowing. There’s an astronaut, a supermodel, a humanitarian, an activist, and an amazing selection of business leaders all ready to share their insights to turn these 200,000 people into the world’s most successful business community – now I’m officially itching to be there.
Fortunately, Dreamforce makes it easy for me to be there without being there. So I’m putting together a plan for checking-in remotely to some of the cool stuff without physically attending. It doesn’t compare with seeing the likes of U2 and Alanis Morissette up close, but it should keep my FOMO in check.
Here are my top tips for rocking Dreamforce from a distance:
Limber up with some video teasers, to get a taste of what’s to come. I recommend Get Ready for Dreamforce ’16 to get you in the zone. But, there’s also a whole Dreamforce ‘16 playlist dedicated to giving you insights into every area, including Sales, Service, Marketing, IT, Giving Back and even the Salesforce Ohana Culture.
The Salesforce YouTube channel is also where you can “see it first”, as new videos are published during Dreamforce. It’s well worth subscribing, and playing through your TV’s surround sound system to experience the intoxicating buzz of a Dreamforce keynote for yourself! (Is popcorn too much?)
Salesforce LIVE is a free broadcast experience airing Dreamforce keynotes and major breakout sessions as they happen, so you can get in on the action. Jump on in advance to register for Salesforce chairman and CEO Marc Benioff’s keynote on Wednesday, October 5, at 1pm PST. (That’s 6am,Thursday, October 6, for Aussies). And, check out the timings of other must-see keynotes on the Dreamforce website.
Dreamforce is on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, so you can keep up-to-date on your mobile in daily social posts – don’t forget to follow. If you want to talk to other Aussies, Kiwis, Asians and Indians joining the Dreamforce APAC on Tour contingent this year, check in with the #APAConTour hashtag and jump right into the conversation.
We’ll be posting all relevant Dreamforce photos and news on our SalesforceANZ Facebook and @SalesforceAPAC Twitter pages. Staying on top of all things hot off the press just became another great reason to add us on social.
Much of the goodness coming out of Dreamforce, from the media, from Salesforce and from our inspiring speakers will land here on the Salesforce ANZ blog – so be sure to subscribe here.
I mentioned earlier the ever-growing APAC crew that will descend on San Francisco to attend Dreamforce. Our APAC on Tour members number more than 1,500 this year! There’s an opportunity to have a peek at what they are up to here at the APAC on Tour website. I’m not sure how much this does to alleviate FOMO though!
And the last place I want to encourage you to go is into your own calendar. Book meetings with those whom have been there, done that and got the t-shirt.
With keynotes and hands on Expo experiences for every business role, literally thousands of breakout sessions to choose from including Trailhead, Dreamfest, mindfulness and Women in Leadership sessions, philanthropy, and all of our most innovative partners ready waiting to share their expertise with you - one thing you can be sure of is that everyone will have their own unique tale to tell. Ask them what they did, what business and personal value they got out of going, and what they are going to do with the new information they acquired. Then let them rest and recover!
This is my plan – it’s already in action and I can’t wait. I hope it works for you too.
